Access Macquarie Limited, formerly known as Macquarie Research Ltd, was established in 1989. Initially named Macquarie Park Research Limited, the company was established as a result of Macquarie University’s growing stature as a leading research-based university.

By 1993 the Company had expanded to the stage where it required dedicated senior management as well as more administrative staff, which in turn made it necessary to seek larger office space within the University buildings.

In order to manage the growing number of projects, the Company employed more project management staff. In March 1999 the Company moved from the University buildings to a new purpose built office in the Becton Dickinson Building in the Macquarie University Research and Development Park.

From what started off in “The Cottage” on campus with a Board of four directors and one part time administrative staff member, the Company has continued to grow into a highly successful venture. Today Access Macquarie has a Board of eight directors, 24+ core staff members and well over 100 project staff.

After 18 years, the Company continues to provide project management services to assist university academics in bidding for and managing applied research, consulting, testing and training projects for industry, government and the corporate world. It also continues to assist the University in the protection and commercialisation of its intellectual property.

Access MQ is now positioned to provide an even greater range of services to its clients since it relocated to larger facilities at the Dow Corning Building within the Macquarie University Research Park. With its relocation, Access MQ also established the Macquarie Technology Business Incubator (MTBI) on site which is designed to house and support start-up companies as they are in the process of developing new technologies.

Access MQ offers its incubator tenants a comprehensive range of commercial support services. These include:

  • Serviced office space (or virtual)
  • Finance and administration
  • Marketing
  • Legal and intellectual property (IP) management
  • ICT
  • Commercialisation / technology transfer
  • Business mentoring / training
  • Investment pitching.

Access MQ's unique relationship with the University gives its incubator tenants the opportunity to take advantage of specialised educational services such as entrepreneur, innovation and business development courses.

In 2006, Access MQ's Quality Management System was certified to ISO 9001:2000 by SAI Global, an independent certification body. The pleasing result of the audit was that all core operating and support areas of the Company were deemed to have passed the audit and are therefore certified. That is to say, that the entire Company's operations have met the international standard.
